The Lilly Pad
The Lilly Pad is our quiet sanctuary in the downtown business district dedicated in loving memory to our dear departed friend Lillian Hayden. This space was named in her memory in August of 2019. With a shade arch and waterfall that doubles as a drinking fountain, private seating area, and a green space to meet your pups personal needs, our front pooch patio and garden space is for pups and their peeps to relax, enjoy some fresh air, commune with others, or just enjoy a quiet moment to reflect on friends past and cherish those we love.

The 5 Senses Approach
Our 5 Senses Spaw Service is a whole body approach to dog grooming. Built around the natural cycle of the hair and skin, and an awareness of activating their senses; smell, sound, sight, touch and the all powerful taste, we are focused on the complete pup from the tip of their nose to the tip of their tail and toes.

A dog’s sense of smell is 1000 (or more!) times greater than that of humans. Keeping that in mind, imagine the stress your pup must feel being groomed in the veterinary or kennel environment. The smell of sick, stressed or frightened animals does not make for a positive grooming experience.
Homeward Bound, Inc. uses a proprietary formulation of the Happy Dog calming oil diffused in the salon. This blend was created by Dr. Ann Farrell, of The Healing Arts. We understand that scent and scent memory contains the strongest data on which dogs depend on to determine their safety (or danger) in their surroundings. Their first impression in the Spaw is made before the grooming process even begins. They are met with the calming scents of Lavender, Sweet Marjoram, Frankincense, (citrus), infused with Bach’s Rescue Remedy Water in our Happy Dog scent! Our use of Happy Dog is just one of the many tools used to ensure your dog has a positive Spaw day experience.

Ever walk into a grooming shop or veterinary office met with the sounds of the local rock station playing on the radio? Did you know that much like humans, a dog’s mood, sense of calmness and well-being is directly impacted by auditory stimulus? There have been numerous studies concerning the affect music has on a dogs mood and temperament all with similar results. One such study led by Deborah Wells, a psychologist at Queen’s University Belfast, showed dogs are impacted by varying genres of music. “Our own research has shown that dogs certainly behave differently in response to different types of music, e.g., showing behaviors more suggestive of relaxation in response to classical music and behaviors more suggestive of agitation in response to heavy metal music,”.
Ethereal music is played in the Spaw with the goal of providing a relaxing, positive experience for your loved one.

Most dogs enjoy being touched, massaged and pet. Studies show that a lovingly handled dog is a healthier dog. The touch of the human hand improves the functions of virtually all the sustaining systems: respiratory, circulatory, digestive and so on. The same benefits have been proven for humans as well! In new born puppies, a frequently touched puppy is not only happier and healthier, but also better behaved. Dogs like humans, find comfort in touching another living being, which is one reason we get along so well!

We uses as must natural and low lighting as possible in the Spaw. While our groomers must be able to see when they are working, we also understand that harsh, fluorescent lights are not pleasant for your canine child. And our large front windows allow your pup to enjoy the view of the Spaw Pad too!

Tips on Mange for Dog Owners in Oxford MS
Learn more about, mange in dogs or read below.
Mange is a skin condition triggered by a variety of microscopic termites, which are regular external parasites seen in canine buddies. Some mange termites live naturally in your pet’s skin and hair roots, while others do not. While the majority of dogs exist together quietly with their mites, termites can trigger moderate to serious skin diseases if they proliferate.
- Localized cases happen in a couple of tiny restricted locations when mites increase. It causes isolated scaly bald spots– commonly on the face of the pet– that produce a polka-dot look. This is a frequent disease of pups and pet dogs under the age of 18 months. About 90% of cases solve with no type of treatment.
- On the other hand, generalised cases impact a broader area of the skin of the dog. Secondary bacterial infections make this skin problem exceedingly itchy, frequently stinky. This sort of eating can also be a sign of a weakened immune system, genetic or endocrine or other underlying health condition. Treatment is based upon the age of the pet dog and for how long the pet dog had the illness.
- Poddermatitis, a demodectic kind of manga, is limited to the foot with bacterial infections. It is the most resistant. Deep biopsies are normally needed for the medical diagnosis and the right recognition of these termites.
You’ll desire to get your fur baby used to the concept of having their teeth brushed. To do this, start by carefully massaging her lips with your finger in a circular movement for 30 to 60 secs one or two times a day for a few weeks prior to proceeding to her gums and teeth.
After a few sessions or when your pooch seems comfortable, put a little bit of dog-formulated toothpaste on her lips to get her utilized to the taste.
Next, introduce a toothbrush designed specifically for

Selecting Toothpaste for Dogs

Soaps and medications can be significant irritants, so protect your canine’s eyes prior to washing, using ointments or using any flea treatments.
When driving, it’s a lot more secure to have the windows only partially down, not fully down, and make sure your dog’s head is inside the vehicle not poking out. This will assist avoid injury from road debris or insects getting in their eyes. Heavy wind can also dry your pet dog’s eyes, possibly causing irritation and infection.
Consider doing some investigation to learn if your pet’s breed is prone towards eye disorders, like glaucoma or progressive retinal atrophy. You need to also get your family pet’s eyes inspected during annual veterinarian check ups.
Ear Care for Dogs Who Swim
Pet dogs that have frequent baths or go swimming a lot can be more susceptible to ear inflammation and infection. To prevent infection, put cotton inside your canine’s ears before baths or swimming and be sure to dry their ears out completely when they’re done.
Tips on Nail Care for Pet Owners in Oxford MS

The Homeward Bound Project of MS
Our mission.
The Homeward Bound Project started in 2007 with three Mississippi State University vet students, who noticed the imbalance between the large supply of adoptable dogs in the South and the high demand in the Northeast. They set to work creating the first successful transport program developed, maintained, and operated by students at a veterinary school. Their mission was to take adoptable puppies and young adult dogs from overcrowded shelters in the South, and transport them to non-kill shelters in the Northeast, where there is a high demand for adoptable dogs. Today, the Homeward Bound Project is still run by vet students and continues to send deserving dogs up north with a chance for a better life. Additionally, Homeward Bound now puts forth great efforts to rescue cats and kittens from the streets and from shelters before finding them loving homes within the Mississippi area. All pets adopted out by Homeward Bound are spayed or neutered, have age-appropriate vaccinations, have been screened for diseases, and have spent their last 14 days in Mississippi homes in foster care. All animals have been properly vetted according to their needs and started on flea/tick preventatives prior to being sent to their new homes!
Adoption Policy
Upon interest for a pet, the potential adopter will receive an adoption application via email. The application is returned, filled out, and process within 24-48 hours. A phone interview will follow, and all adopters are notified of status via phone call. Upon approval, a signed adoption contract and adoption fee must be received prior to sending the animal home. Adoption fees (with exceptions) are typically $65, which covers all vet care and surgery the animal receives while in Homeward Bound's care. All pets adopted out by Homeward Bound are spayed or neutered, have age-appropriate vaccinations, have been screened for diseases, and have been FIV/FeLV tested. They have spent at least 14 days in Mississippi homes in foster care and have been treated for any medical conditions. All animals have been properly vetted according to their needs and started on flea/tick/heartworm preventatives prior to being sent to their new homes!
