What's the Best Way to Learn French?
We know how difficult it can be to learn a new language, and French is definitely a hard one (especially for English speakers who don’t use feminine and masculine pronouns for non-living things). However, the best way to learn this language depends on your learning habits and interests.
Below, we have listed different ways that may just become the key to you learning a new language!
1. Watch Films
One of the most entertaining and beneficial ways to learn a new language is to watch movies and TV shows in their language. Try out the vast collection of French films that come with subtitles. You will be able to listen to the vocabulary and phrases to perfect your pronunciation while reading along with the words. You can also start slow by having English subtitles but make sure to keep your ears open and focus on the words in French too!
2. Listen to Music
Songs are one of the best ways to enjoy while learning French. Sing along to the songs to grasp the pronunciation while translating the text to understand the lyrics.
3. Grab a Book
If you love reading, try finding French books in your favorite genre. It might go slowly at first, but you will soon start to grasp the language quickly. You can use translation tools to get to the bottom of some pronunciations and vocabulary.
4. Find a French-Speaking Buddy
If you are learning this language with your friend or significant other, it can become easier to practice speaking consistently. You can also find a fluent French speaker who wants to learn the language you have mastery in! This way, they can learn your language, and you can learn from them as well.
5. Speak Freely without Fear
The most common mistake that people learning a new language make is that they are afraid of making mistakes while speaking! But don’t worry about it. You are learning an entirely new language, and no one expects you to be perfect in the first go. Anyone you speak to might help you correct mistakes and help you grow into a fluent French speaker.
6. Active Listening
When other French speakers are talking, practice active listening. You need to focus on the expressions and phrases they use. And don’t hesitate to ask them what it means. Passive listening might also help you develop skills, so put on a podcast or radio in the background as you do your chores or drive.
7. Keep Practicing
When it comes to learning a new language, consistent practice is the best way to learn French. When you are alone, try and repeat new expressions and words you have learned out loud so that you can perfect them.
8. Try an App
Duolingo is a popular language-learning app that you can use daily to develop your skills. It can help you stay consistent with your practice. Spending just 5 minutes every day on it can help you learn more vocabulary and phrases.
9. Sign Up for a Class
Check out the local French classes in your area that can help you grow into a more fluent speaker. It can be the best way to learn French since you have professionals to help you develop the skills you need. You will also be able to make friends in the class and speak to them in the language to better your skills.
In all honesty, the best way to learn French for you is what helps you develop the skills the most. You can try out these methods and see which one does the most for you.
