## Pictograph Worksheets

Picture graph worksheets contain cut-paste activity and reading pictographs. Students should answer the questions based on the picture graphs. These printable worksheets contain skills involving reading, drawing, grouping and more. A unique theme is maintained in each pdf worksheet, which would help students of kindergarten through grade 3 to reinforce the knowledge in analyzing the data under real-life situations. Print our free pictograph worksheets with just a click!

## Picture Graph

Completing Picture Graph

Complete the picture graph by cutting out the graphics and pasting them under the suitable category. Based on the graph, answer the questions. Suitable for kindergarten and grade 1 kids.

Answer the questions based on the picture graph. Each worksheet has a different theme.

This section features basic reading pictograph worksheet pdfs for 1st grade and 2nd grade children. Use the information to answer the questions. Keys: 2, 8 or 10.

The worksheets have half symbols with key varying in 2-digit numbers.

The scales are in hundreds. There are three printable 3rd grade worksheets in different themes. Calculation may be a bit heavier. Obviously, there are half symbols.

## Drawing Pictograph

Tally Marks and Pictograph

Draw the pictograph based on the information on tally marks. Scale varies between 2 to 10. You do not require half symbols here.

Counting and Grouping

Draw the pictograph to show the count of each item. Students may group the items in 2s, 3s or 5s.

Standard: Easy Level

Draw pictograph to represent the data and answer the questions. Key value varies between 2 and 9.

Standard: Moderate Level

Each pdf worksheet has real-life representation with data values in the table. Show the information by drawing the pictograph. Students of grade 2 and grade 3 may use half-symbols in some places.

Standard: Difficult Level

Divide each entry by key value to determine the number of symbols that go in each row. Key values take only three-digit numbers. Use half-symbols wherever necessary.

## PICTOGRAPH WORKSHEETS

Pictograph worksheets or picture graph worksheets in this section teach children to represent data using pictures or symbols. This graphical representation is much easier as the numerical data collected is represented using pictures. Worksheets without key for beginners, with key for grade 2 through grade 6, reading, interpretting, and drawing pictographs are all given for practice. Also, worksheets to represent data using Tally marks and Pictographs and matching data to the given pictographs are here for best understanding of both these topics. You can download all these free pictograph worksheets for abundant practice.

Let us learn to represent the information on a picture graph

1. The first step is to collect data.    Example :  Collect this data from your class. Suggest your friends 5 colors and ask them their favorite color. Lets consider 5 colors. Red,  Blue, Green, Yellow and Orange.

2. Make a small table to record this information.  With the given information, you can easily make a pictograph. Consider the  key as 2. Select a simple picture for the pictograph.

3.  8 students like Red color. According to the key 2 students can be represented using a  picture. How many 2’s are in 8. Its 8/2 = 4. Use 4 pictures. 7 students like Blue color. Now divide 7 by 2. 7/2 = 3.5 or 3 1/2. So we will use 3 full  pictures which represent 6 students and 1 half picture representing 1 student.  Similarly you can represent pictures for Green, Yellow, and Orange.

## What are Picture Graphs?

We often attempt to make sense of the world around us. We often compile a number of observations or measurements in the form of data (numbers). Picture graphs help us bring this data to life for the people we are trying to communicate our message with. This tool gives us a nice way to visually display that data. It can give the data a feeling or mood that you just cannot get from plain old numbers. This can help us better understand a system and make educated guesses about trends or populations quickly. The graph is created by picking a picture in the form of an icon or symbol to represent a single data type.

For example, if we were examining the animals in our woody backyard, we might have squirrels, birds, and chipmunks running around. We could use a visual for each animal to represent one instance of every animal in our backyard community. You can apply this tool to just about any situation we run into where we have smaller quantities of data to work with. You will find this often in newspaper articles that are trying to make a point to their readers. The visual seems to have a larger impact on readers than just pools of digits and numbers.

## When Should You Use Picture Graphs?

The use of graphs is an interesting way to help kids learn about organizing and visualizing data, hence making it easier for them to compare and solve problems. Looking at a bar graph or a picture graph, you can easily identify which color has the most or least cubes. In their real sense, they are actual pictures drawn for the purpose of depicting information visually. While bar graphs use colored blocks, they use pictures to represent the data. Both graphs are very similar to each other. However, a picture graph works well when dealing with small numbers. They most commonly are known as pictographs. They are used when you have data in a large quantity and want to represent it in an organized manner. Let's say; there are 4 shepherds each having 3 sheep. This can be easily depicted using a pictograph. In case the shepherds have more sheep, you can upgrade the pictorial scale as one sheep picture = 5 sheep. This indicates that picture graphs are best to be drawn when you have small or limited data and want to make kids learn about the actual representation of graphs.
